The Importance of Home Care
Why The Home Care Pathway Is Right For You
Home Care is an underutilized health resource in Alberta. It comes with many negative conotations by family and family by those who may be in need of health support or transitioning through changes caused by disease or ageing. At Curate Caregivers, we are a startup by local nurses in Alberta. Our experience working with your families in clinical and acute care settings led us to strive for services that are not reactionary to changes in ageing and health, but provide stability through those changes. Adding Home Care to your day to day life ensures that with frequent monitoring, health assessments and preventative adaptations to environments, health is maintained and quality of life is improved. Curated Caregivers isn't just basic home care services, we strive to ensure that the care, preferences and personalities of those providing care match the needs of the individual.
Obtaining Home Care Services
There are many ways to access home care in Alberta. Let us help navigate you through the process and get your questions answered.

Publicly Funded Services
To apply for publicly funded home care services, Albertans must call Health Link at 811 and request a home care assessment. An AHS case manager evaluates medical needs, functional abilities, and the level of support required. Based on this assessment, AHS determines which essential services you qualify for under provincial funding.

Private Home Care
Private home care is available and encouraged to assist with day to day activities in the home. Curated Caregivers will discuss the preferences and needs requsted. Home care is not just helping with medications, private services can consist of appointment accompaniment, assistance with errands, wellness check-ins, light housekeeping, and ensuring environmental safety issues are addressed. This private option does come at the direct cost to the patient or family, but by passes long assessment wait times by publicly funded options. Your private health benefits plan may qualify for home care and the option to combine publicly funded home care through CDHCI and supplementation privatly.
Home Care Assessment
When getting assessed by the Assisted Living Alberta (formerly Alberta Health Services), these areas are a focus of assessment: • Review of medical history, medications, and ongoing conditions • Functional assessment (mobility, personal care ability, safety needs) • Determination of essential care needs covered by funding • Assignment to client-directed or staff-directed AHS care models
Services
Curated Caregivers provides various services. We focus on the indivudal as a whole, so services include tasks that will help improve quality of life and decrease in home tasks that may not be appropriate for the patient due to new or ongoinghealth concerns or changes.

Client Directed Home Care Invoicing (CDHCI)
Client Directed Home Care Invoicing (CDHCI) gives families the option to select a private home care provider while using AHS funding to pay for approved essential services. AHS determines eligible hours, and the chosen agency invoices AHS directly* for those services, giving clients flexibility and continuity of care.
